I am very excited to announce that I am producing/directing my first dramatic film this fall. We've been developing the story over the last 8 months and recently finished the script. Consider this the first official announcement as we go into pre-production.
The film is a very raw, emotional look at a marriage on the brink of failure, and follows a couple through the pivotal moments of confrontation, desperation and truth telling. The central question for them: 'is there any hope for us?'
This is very much a labor of love and not necessarily a vehicle for profit. That of course is short hand for 'we are looking for volunteers'. Our goal is to produce a short film that tells a very moving and redemptive story, challenging couples to examine their own relationships regardless of condition, and see them for what they are and what they could be. After initial release we will be submitting the film to film festivals across North America and making it available to any organizations/ministries that might find it a powerful tool to spark conversation.
For those who are familiar, I have been participating in the first ever Dream Year led by Ben Arment. Ben is the creative leader behind the Story conference and the Whiteboard Sessions. Due to our plan and Ben's support, there is great opportunity for all involved to be part of something very meaningful and also something that could receive a good deal of exposure.
We are currently looking for help in three very distinct areas. Please forward this information to anyone you think may be interested.
1) Financial Support
We are covering 2/3 of the cost ourselves, but do need help with the final third which is $5,000. This is primarily to obtain certain music copywrites and to obtain some additional equipment that we will need for production. If any individual/organization is willing to contribute $2500 or more they will be given a co-executive producer credit. $1,000 or more a co-producer credit. Anyone contributing smaller amounts will be listed as special thanks. If you are interested in contributing, you can do so via Paypal or by check. Contact info at bottom of this post. Feel free to call with any questions. The script can be made available upon request.
2) Cast
We will be filming in Birmingham, AL and are looking for cast members who not only fit the roles, but who can get here with little to no expense. If coming from out of town we can accommodate lodging, meals, etc...but getting here will be on you. There are 4 adult roles. The 2 main characters, the married couple Scott & Tracy. Early to mid thirties. Both of these roles require an incredible emotional commitment and intensity. There is a lot of arguing, fighting, crying, distress. There is also hope, forgiveness and tenderness. They have 3 children 2 boys 3 & 6, one girl 8 and we'll be casting those locally. The 2 older kids have a brief argument at the dinner table with a few lines each.
The third role is Scott's brother, Seth. Late 20s to early 30s. This character acts as a sounding board and comforter to his older brother. Cool and laid back personality, very strong and compassionate.
Final role is Seth's wife Amy, late 20s to early 30s. Very small role, just a couple of lines.
Interested actors need to submit a headshot and performance resume' and reel to us using the contact info at bottom of the post. We prefer all communication to be done electronically as much as possible. Once we've narrowed down the field we'll share the script with those selected for final auditions.
3) Crew
Same as cast, we'll take care of you while here but getting here is on your own. We have a DP and some additional crew already lined up. What we really would love is to find an audio specialist and a lighting specialist, both with equipment if at all possible. We could also use some additional help in the hair/makeup area as well as set design.
We don't have a firm date set as of yet, but our plan is to film around mid - late October, probably a 3-4 day shoot built around a weekend. The film will be edited and released before the end of the year.
Please feel free to contact us with any and all questions: email us here. You can call at 205.965.7802 or regular mail at Big Picture Media, c/o Mark Clement, 5227 Post House Ln., Birmingham, AL 35242. You can find examples of our past work here. Deadline for contacting us is Friday, September 17th.
